Replace a Print Address That Got Out

    3 min read

Your print address is a key, not a name. Anyone who has it can print to your printer, the same way anyone holding your shop key can open the door. Nothing bad happens while it stays between you and the systems you paste it into, and if it does get out you can change the locks in about two minutes.

    Table of Contents

    When to replace it

Swap the address if it has been somewhere other people can read:

    • A screenshot in a support ticket, a review, or a social post.
    • A shared inbox, a group chat, or a printed handover sheet.
    • A supplier portal or a staff account you no longer control.
    • Pages you did not send are coming out of the printer.

You do not need to replace it just because a supplier has it. That is what it is for.

    Replace it in the app

Do these in order. The app always keeps at least one address, so you add the new one before removing the old one.

    1. Open Settings → Print addresses.
    2. Tap Add address. Give it a label you will recognise later, like "Orders" or "Invoices".
    3. Copy the new address and paste it everywhere the old one was used: your forwarding rule, the delivery platform, the online store, whatever sends you email.
    4. Send one test email to the new address and check it prints.
    5. Back in Print addresses, tap Remove on the old one.

The moment you remove it, mail to the old address stops printing. Jobs that already printed stay in your history, and your printer, rules and station setup are untouched.

    Use several addresses on purpose

You can keep up to ten active at once, and it is worth using more than one. Give each source its own labelled address: one for the delivery platform, one for your accountant, one for the shop inbox.

When an address leaks, you replace only that one, and you update only the system it belonged to. It also tells you where a leak came from, because you know exactly which source had which address.

Add a rule so only your senders print

A second lock, worth setting up whether or not anything leaked. Under Rules, add the senders you actually expect: a full address like orders@shopify.com, or a bare domain like shopify.com, which also covers mail.shopify.com.

Once a rule exists, email from anyone else is ignored, even if they have your address. With no rules at all, the address itself is the only gate and anything sent to it prints.

If pages are printing right now

    1. Add a rule for the senders you expect. That stops the unwanted mail immediately, without breaking the real senders.
    2. Then replace the address, using the steps above.

Do it in that order. A rule takes effect at once, while replacing the address involves updating every system that sends to you, and pages keep arriving while you work through them.

Email support@itjustprints.app with the label of the address involved. Never send us the address itself, and do not post it in a review or a public thread.
